With plans to get out and do some camping after my Bronco arrives I was curious if anyone else is out taking pictures of the night skies and if so what type of Telescope system are you using for taking images? I’m waiting for the new smart telescope from Seestar to be released, but curious about what others are doing if anything.

Nothing with a telescope, but in 2022 I had cataract surgery, and could see about 2015 in one eye, 2020 in the other. That was the year I got my Bronco, part of my maiden trip was dispersed camping in central-west Utah. No light pollution, crystal-clear skies. I enjoyed the most magnificent starscape of my life!

My interest is piqued, @DragoBiscuit. I never heard of a smart telescope. Do they enhance the field of view digitally? I'm a big-time astronomy buff. Even aced it in a college science course. I used to be able to identify every constellation.
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

Ooh! I just Googled this and found an informative YouTube video. It's a couple of years old, but it gave me some answers... 😎

So earlier this summer, days before the fire that destroyed the historic North Rim Lodge at the Grand Canyon I did a 30 second exposure with my IPHONE from a tripod. That is looking outward from almost the center of the Milky Way.

Awesome picture.
It is sad about 25 years ago I was able to see the Milky Way from my house.of course not this bright, but you could make it out. Now we get so much light from the city I can walk the pastures without a flash light.

I've only gone out a few times to catch recent aurora borealis events. Growing up, my dad was a huge astronomy geek. He owned several 10-13" telescopes that we would take all over Nebraska. It's an itch I'm worried to scratch again, as I suffer from serious Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

Yep, SeeStar is the company that makes one of the top selling smart telescopes. These are more for the layman, wanna get some cool pics, non-astronomer Like me. lol. The company is going to be launching a new s70 model soon so waiting to get that one when it does. But thinking about camping out after a trail day, setting up a camp fire, getting the scope setup and then whiles it takes cool pics, sipping a cool scotch! Lazy man astronomy!

That’s there first one. They came out with the s30 last year. That one is a little cheaper and functions about the same.

That’s awesome! The new smart telescopes can do exposure time for hours so it really enhances far distance shots like the moon or the andromeda galaxy.
